I am sure you have at least once used Google Page speed Insight or GTmatrix. Then you may have come across these terms. The basic advices they give to speed up WordPress website.

    Leverage browser caching.
    Enable gzip compression
    Optimize images.
    Optimize CSS and Java Delivary

Yes these are the once we get stuck at specially when we are beginners. I did. But I learnt below tricks and I am glad I did. They improve my website speed significantly from 66% to 89%. Just by doing these quick fixes. So lets start

    Two Plugin installations.
    Two htaccess modifications.

STEP 1 Install Autoptimize and activate

This really is a life saver. This alone will contribute hugely to your page speed and all you have to do is tick three boxes.
You know how to install a plugin right? If not read my post about installing plugins here.
Then go to plugin setting page and tick the boxes for

    Optimize HTML code
    Optimize CSS code
    Optimize Java Scripts

….and save. Thats one done!

STEP 2 Install EWWW Image Optimizer and activate

Just install the plugin and stay back and see the work. It loosely compress the images to reduce the file size keeping the image quality as it is. Initially you may have to optimise the images you have already uploaded. After the installation, every image you upload will be automatically optimised.

“Now access the root of your site via FTP or cpanel of your server and locate .htaccess file”

.htaccess file live in the root folder of your site. This is usually hidden and you may have to select “show hidden content” option in the beginning. If in doubt ask me or ask the server customer team

Once you locate it, click on edit.
